To revolutionize cattle farm and hog-raising waste management practices and convert these into green energy in the Negros Island Region, Central Philippines State University (CPSU) and Project Nayon kicked off their partnership during a meeting on December 2, 2025.
ย United under the trailblazing Project Makaya, CPSU and Project Nayon aim to accomplish, or โMakayaโ, the provision of solutions to the longstanding problem of ineffective or non-existent animal waste management practices in the island.
ย The project seeks to address the concurrent issues of animal waste abundance, soil degradation, inefficient and unhealthy cooking practices, and rising cooking fuel prices in the country through the utilization of biogas emitted from livestock and hog-raising wastes by installing 10,000 biodigester unit systems across the island.
Project Nayonโs facilitators, Mr. R. Josh Eddie, CFA (Head Advocate of Change), Ms. Renz Ladroma (Chief of Community), and Mr. Jesureth Boboyo (Project Originator),ย joined the CPSU team led by University President Dr. Aladino C. Moraca, along with key officials, technical personnel, support staff, cooperating non-government organizations, and farmer leaders, in laying out the details of Project Makaya.
ย During the orientation, the consolidated CPSUโNayon team, together with attending NGO and farmer representatives, engaged in an interactive briefing and opened discussions on the implementation of tested on-ground strategies and approaches, and addressed practical questions, enumerated eligibility criteria for priority farms, elucidated beneficiary requirements, and discussed stakeholder engagement
President Moraca highlighted CPSUโs commitment to touching the hearts and lives of poor and underprivileged communities which is a zeal that has propelled the university into five worldwide rankings, serving as testament to the impact of its homegrown initiatives and programs.
ย Vice President for Administration and Finance Engr. Marc Alexei Caesar B. Badajos, PhD, introduced the CPSU workforce who will be working on the project, while Production and Enterprise Development Office Director Dr. Maryvic P. Pedrosa provided a brief overview of CPSUโs Sustainable Solutions as its Green Technology in Action.
ย Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Grenny I. Jungco was also present at the event, expressing support for the initiative and acknowledging the role of the universityโs academic workforce in the implementation of the island-wide project.
