The lectures, held in the Main Campus’ Research Development and Extension Center (RDEC) Conference Room, served as refresher and supplementary learning sessions to bolster the students’ knowledge about the sugar industry and farming.

Employed as civil servants working to advance the sugar industry in the Negros Island Regionβ€”where the industry plays a vital role in the province’s economyβ€”SRA’s Ms. Dee Arr D. Paglumotan - Training Specialist IV; Mr. Andy C. Alimpulos - Senior Science Research Specialist; Mr. Jayno C. Ramos - Senior Science Research Specialist; Mr. Johnriel D. MoreΓ±o - Agriculturist II, Mr. Alfred N. Pabon - Agriculturist/Mill District Officer, were vivid sources of inspiration for the Cenphilians taking the BST program.

The resource persons also discussed the current developments in the industry and gave a brief orientation about SIDA and the initiatives being developed under the programβ€”expounding on the benefits that the students and sugar farming-dependent households could avail of.

The Sugarcane Industry Development Act of 2015 (SIDA) aims to promote the competitiveness and sustainability of the Philippine sugarcane industry by funding various initiatives, including farm-to-market roads, research and mechanization, socialized credit, block farm development, and scholarships for sugarcane workers and small farmers’ children.

The seminar was successfully facilitated by the College of Agriculture and Forestry faculty headed by Dr. Hanzel L. Pedrosa and the BST Program head, Ma’am Genalin A. Mangao.
