𝗚𝗠𝗦𝗪𝗜𝗦𝗔 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧, 𝗖𝗣𝗦𝗨, 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘀’ 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲

With empowerment and self-sufficiency as goals, Department of Science and Technology - Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (DOST - CEST) and Central Philippines State University (CPSU) brought the Pandayan ng Bayan program to the Gil Montilla Small Water Irrigation System Association (GMSWISA).

The agencies conducted the turnover ceremony last June 19 in Sipalay City, where the said farmers’ association is based, with the presence and support of Negros Occidental Sixth District Hon. Congresswoman Mercedes “Cheding” K. Alvarez.

CPSU President Dr. Aladino C. Moraca encouraged the members of the farmers’ association to make use of the donated tools and pieces of equipment in starting income-generating projects while RU Foundry Chief-Executive-Officer Mr. Ramon Uy Sr emphasized his desire to train the recipients in creating and repairing agricultural tools for them to utilize the package effectively.

In addition, DOST Negros Occidental Provincial Director Engr. Allan Francis Dara-ug, on behalf of Engr. Gelonga, and City Agriculturist Ms. Lanie Yanong, on behalf of the Sipalay City Mayor Maria Gina M. Lizares also gave their respective messages for the initiative by DOST, CPSU and cooperating agencies namely, Technological University of the Philippines, Carlos Hilado Memorial State University, Philippine Normal University – Visayas (PNUV), and State University of Northern Negros (SUNN).

Rey Cepe relayed his sentiments on behalf of the recipients, thanking the agencies that made the initiative possible.

Facilitated by Pandayan ng Bayan Project Leader, Dr. Maryvic P. Pedrosa and the implementing agency CPSU College of Agriculture and Forestry headed by College Dean, Dr. Hanzel Pedrosa, the Pandayan ng Bayan project is an initiative by DOST, CPSU and the aforementioned cooperating agencies which includes the donation of Pandayan ng Bayan packages and IT educational packages worth P5 million to bolster the self-sufficiency of farmers when it comes to their farming needs and to empower students by providing them with tools in their science and technology studies.
